Sixth Grade
Second Trimester
“The Living Earth” is our unit of study in reading. The sixth graders have a choice of textbook stories and activities, leveled readers and activities, and recommended novels for this unit. Predicting outcomes, making judgments, setting, and plot are the areas of study.
Parts of speech, capitalization, and punctuation will continue to be our main focus in language. The six-traits of writing have been incorporated into all writing projects.
Variables, Formulas, and Graphs in the third unit of Everyday Math is our focus. We are also reviewing fractions, mixed numbers, decimals and solving problems involving percents and discounts. Mr. Farley will begin his noon math program after the Christmas break.
Our “Journey of Faith” continues in the second unit of religion. Eight Bible verses and twenty books of the Old Testament should be stored in our memory banks.
Our study of Minnesota History will end with our capital city, St. Paul. After Christmas we will begin our study of world history and the early civilizations. Our study of current events centers around the “Time For Kids” magazine.
